Placement of your Floorcloth:
A floorcloth is best suited for a hard surface floor such as linoleum, wood, tile, or concrete. It should not be laid over carpet. Laying a floorcloth over carpet can result in small surface cracks on the floorcloth due to its being crushed into the softness of the carpet below from the weight of feet or furniture. Similarly, if a tile floor has deep grout grooves, we would recommend not placing your floorcloth there.
Allow your floorcloth to come to room temperature before unrolling it. It will gradually flatten completely as it slowly settles on the floor, do not force it to flatten immediately. In the meantime, clean the floor very thoroughly by vacuuming and mopping up any dust or dirt.
Check the feet of any chairs or tables that will sit on your floorcloth. If there are rough or sharp edges, fasten protective gliders to the feet so that they can shift easily over the floorcloth.
Clean your floorcloth just as you would clean your floor to avoid any build-up of dirt and spills. Clean the floorcloth with a damp soapy sponge or mop. Do not use abrasive cleansers on your floorcloth. Your floorcloth has been given a thin coat of paste wax (Bowling Alley Wax) to protect the finish. If you apply a little paste wax about 3 – 4 times each year, the finish will gain that much more protection—especially if in a high traffic area. Remember to clean beneath the floorcloth from time to time as well.
You should roll—never fold—a floorcloth. If it’s small enough, sandwich it between two sturdy surfaces for transporting.
If used in a semi-outdoor environment—like a porch—bring it in during damp or rainy weather. Do not allow it to sit in water. (The sealant used to protect your cloth from the elements will also seal moisture in if continually allowed to get wet which will damage your floorcloth.)
If you would like to move your floorcloth to a different location in your home, roll it carefully and carry it (with a friend) to the new room. If your cloth is particularly large, you might wish to get a cardboard tube (5" to 6" in diameter) from the home improvement store. That way you can roll your cloth ONTO the tube (painted side outward) for easy transportation. If you are moving your floorcloth to a different location altogether, roll it up and place it INSIDE the cardboard tube. Follow the directions for installation above.
