In life I have two main passions: Art and Nature. I
spent about 20 years of my life focusing on sharing nature
with others, but since 1999 I have focused on my love of
creating art. I enjoy painting in acrylics for the
exhilaration of painting fast and spontaneously, but I get a
real charge out of carving images in wood or linoleum for
printmaking. Sometimes, I enhance a print with watercolor
paints. Sometimes I take a watercolor sketch and turn it into
a design for a Scandinavian rya rug. I don’t limit myself to
one medium even though I am often told I should. The multitude
of skills keep me forever learning and taking on new
challenges.
Painting brings me closer in touch with Nature and the
world around me - I see things more clearly. I love the
challenge of playing with colors until the image comes
together and suddenly I am THERE. There is a moment in the
painting when I know it is happening. I get very excited when
that point is reached. I just want to keep painting for the
adrenaline rush. I release all my thoughts and allow myself to
just be and create without judgment. When I look at the piece
afterwards I am amazed and proud in the fact that "THAT came
from ME!", like giving birth to a baby.
I start with a pencil sketch - in fact I am always found
with a sketchbook in hand. Sketching makes me look more
closely at everything I draw or paint. "Seeing" is the best
teacher of all. I believe that without drawing we don’t truly
see the world.
Over the past few years I have become freer in my work…
less obsessed with detail and more interested in the overall
dance of the piece. I am always seeking the dance.
